Ali Banat, The Extreme Humanitarian Passes Away but Leaves A Strong Message

We know that death is the ultimate truth but still, we forget about it. When life is kind to us and we are happy, we try to ignore this ultimate truth. Although it is always at the back of our minds, we tend to ignore it. We absorb ourselves in the trivialities of everyday life. Instead of striving to do good deeds, we surrender in front of material things. And then, life punches us in the face to bring us back to reality. It may be in the form of a tragedy, a big financial loss or a serious illness. That is what happened to Ali Banat, a successful businessman with a happy family.

Before his life changed, Ali Banat had it all.

Ali Banat was born and raised in New South Wales, Australia. He owned a security and electrical company. Living a lavish life with all the luxuries of the world, he had no worries. He had cars like Ferrari, wore only designer clothes and shoes like Louis Vuitton. In 2015, he was diagnosed with cancer. After that, life as he knew it changed.

He decided to use cancer as a catalyst to bring positive change in other’s lives.

After his diagnosis, he sold his company and became a humanitarian. In an interview, he described his illness as a ‘gift’. He said that he realised he was chasing wrong goals. Ali Banat gave up all his possessions to work for the needy. He said,

“When you find out you’re sick or you don’t have much time to live, this is the last thing you want to chase. And that’s how we should live our lives every day.”

Ali Banat founded an organisation for the poor and needy.

His organisation, the Muslims Around The World (MATW) Project, focus on providing food, education and other humanitarian aid programs in African countries such as Togo, Ghana and Burkina Faso. He had also created a GoFundMe campaign for his organization.

With the help of donations, this organisation has built a village in Togo, Africa. It includes a housing facility for over 200 widows, a mosque and a school for 600 orphans. This country has a large Muslim population. Also, 55% of the population lives below the poverty line.

This organisation wants to expand their services to other Muslims in need.

After Africa, MATW wants to help Syrian refugees in Lebanon and aid the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

On 29th May 2018, Ali Banat lost his battle against cancer.

Despite been given only 7 months to live, he went on to live for 3 more years. In those 3 years, he dedicated his life to working for humanity. He became an inspiration for the whole world. He travelled to many countries in Africa himself. In addition to giving up all his possessions, he raised funds for his organisation. Before his death, he recorded a video message for the world which was released after his death.

We all should learn from this amazing message.

While it teaches us to value each other more, Ali Banat’s life and death have many more lessons for us. It teaches us to be grateful to Allah, it teaches us to change our way of life before its too late. It teaches us to live our lives in service of the needy people around us. Most of all, it teaches us that this life is temporary. May Allah give Ali Banat highest ranks in Jannat and may Allah guide us to be like him.
