Sleep: The Fuel for your Brain
Have you ever wondered know about the importance of sleep lately? Did you know sleep is as important for human body as anything? As important as the food we eat, the air we breathe and the water we drink.
Our brain operates on the dynamic energy it gets from the sleep.
Today thousands of people suffer from the evils of sleep disorders like narcolepsy and insomnia. That is because mostly people are stuck up with their routines and busy schedules. This prevents them from gaining more hours of sleep.
The issue of sleep deprivation is active among teenagers nowadays.
However, researches have showed that sleep deprivation not only limits the brain’s productivity but can also be deadly.
THE IMPORTANCE OF SLEEP FOR TEENS
Teens and adolescents are likely to get less hours of sleep due to a lot of reasons:
- Their bodies go through a ‘horrendous’ internal change. The restless neurons meet with the mighty hormones which creates a state of disequilibrium.
- Sudden burden of the studies and the blow of new life with which they try to keep up.
- Their sudden behavioral problems with their parents and the people around are enough to tire their brain cells.
Sleeping well and enough is directly proportional to your productivity and efficiency. While a person may be able to function on little sleep it will in fact effect his competency.
According to the research conducted by the US department of education the schools which started at 9 a.m. instead of 7:30 a.m. were yielding excellent results. While the students performed well in mostly the core subjects , i.e., English, Math, Science and Social studies.
By foreseeing the prevalent threat of sleep disorders in teens, only 18 % of schools started their premises at 9 in the morning. So the general opinion about sleep deprivation is that it isn’t considered as important as it is.
Consequences of little sleep include limited learning ability and lower concentration levels.
It makes us prone to pimples and acne and displays of disrupted and inappropriate behavior. Although it may have other factors involved too but little sleep causes a person to be frustrated.
The evil of sleep deprivation has destroyed thousands of healthy brains. It is the biggest obstacle in the fruitful development of teenagers today. Nevertheless, it is kept aside and not given serious thought.
This issue is bound to get serious attention in the future if not today if we keep pushing the agenda.
