Gul Makai – Malala Yousafzai Biopic Is In The Making

From the ruins of a small village in Swat, a 12-year-old girl rose up and became the voice of the girls globally. Later on, that girl became a shining star for the whole world and we know her as Malala Yousafzai. Although she had to fight for life to reach this status, Malala is an inspiration for us all. She is the youngest Nobel Prize winner in the world. In her short life, she has achieved what many only dream of. Recently, we heard that a Malala Yousafzai biopic is in the making.

Malala Yousafzai biopic is named Gul Makai.

When Malala used to write blog posts for BBC, she used the pen name Gul Makai. It became her identity and is significant for Malala in her struggles for the education. That’s why the biopic is also named Gul Makai. The motion poster of the film is released. In the background of the poster, we can hear Kabir Bedi saying,

“This is about those times when the Taliban was destroying Pakistan and Afghanistan in the name of Jihad and religion. When from a very small village in Pakistan, a voice arose.”

The poster of Gul Makai features the protagonist played by Reem Shaikh.

She is best known for her role in Amitabh Bachchan’s Wazir. Other than Reem, Gul Makai stars Divya Dutta as Malala’s mother, Atul Kulkarni as her father, Om Puri as General Kayani, Pankaj Tripathi as Baitullah Mehsud. It’s safe to say that the cast is just perfect.

The film is under production and the shooting is taking place in Kashmir.

It is directed by Indian filmmaker Amjad Khan and produced by Anand Kumar. In an interview, the producer said,

“The biopic is 50 per cent finished and I am super curious to bring it to the silver screen soon. We have already shot the war sequences and other important schedules. Now we will be shooting with our Malala in Kashmir.”

However, in 2016, some parts were shot on Bhuj and Mumbai. After which, they were supposed to shoot in Kashmir but couldn’t because of the political unrest.

People are excited about Gul Makai and are looking forward to it.

People showed their support for the film on Twitter.

We are also looking forward to the film and are very excited that Malala Yousafzai is getting her own biopic. However, my only issue with this film is that it’s an Indian production and not a Pakistani. Instead of making a film on such topics, we still prefer to make films with cheap humour and lame love stories. It’s about time that we change our ways and highlight heroes like Malala Yousafzai through our films.
