Once upon a time, MQM ruled the province of Sindh. Altaf Hussain, the party leader, was one of the most popular men in Karachi. Founded in 1984, MQM focused on the Muhajir community initially. MQM was also a feared political party in Karachi. Currently, its split in 2 factions, MQM-London and MQM-Pakistan. MQM-Pakistan has chosen Farooq Sattar as it’s leader. Since 1988, MQM has been a part of National Assembly, whether as opposition or in alliance with another party. However, the results of elections 2018 show a different picture.
In this year’s elections, Muttahida Qaumi Movement could not maintain their stronghold.
It seems like people have had enough of MQM because they could not get the desired votes. It could only win 5 seats in National Assembly and 9 seats in Sindh Assembly. Like the rest of Pakistan, Sindh has also voted for the real change.
