Every day, there’s a new trending hashtag on social media to waste our precious time. Basically, social media is where millennials live (myself included). Among them, Twitter is that aunty of the family who starts all kinds of drama. Although we have a choice to avoid any drama, but who are we to resist the temptations. These days, Pakistani Twitter drama consists of GPA debate and I can’t even.

This time, Pakistani Twitter drama started when a Twitter user posted a tweet about CGPA.
A Twitter user posted a tweet about CGPA. According to him, it’s just a number and does not determine your success.
CGPA is just a number, people with low CGPA are more creative according to research .

In response to this tweet, a psychologist to be posted this tweet and all hell broke loose.
CGPA indicates how committed you are to your studies, it shows discipline, hardwork and a lot of other traits. You can't have a 4CGPA and be dumb. Sorry but it's just an excuse for people who dont put in enough effort to feel good about themselves. https://t.co/nLXa3l8ITl
— Zahra Shah (@zahrashah140) June 24, 2018
People started pouring in their opinions about CGPA and it started another Pakistani Twitter drama.
This guy does not agree with Miss Shah.
Wromg. I have seen people with 4.0 CGPA and yet they were not good enough even for a starting level job. 4 CGPA means that yiu've studied hard, yes sure. But good grades do not make yiu a suitable candidate for the industry and they have nothing to do with those "other traits".
— Hamis | đ“‚€ (@herfunmola) June 24, 2018
According to him, the experience is the most important thing.
Studying does not mean you have a great skill set, it is obtained by work related experience and anyone can gain it, including those with lower CGPAs. And working on yourself is different from studying hard, it is about self grooming.
— Hamis | đ“‚€ (@herfunmola) June 24, 2018
While others agreed with her.
I agree. I’m a gold medalist and my fellow students are always making fun of I do the “ratta” thing whereas I don’t and they don’t the hard work behind it.
— Saniya (@Saniyazing) June 24, 2018
This guy thinks low CGPA means less motivation.
In my batch only top cpga students (>3.5) have gotten jobs so far including jobs at MNC’s. But still low cpga doesn’t mean that someone is dull in any way. They’re just not motivated sometimes to give their best

GPA doesn’t measure intelligence.
It shows conformity to the system. It illustrates how well you fit in and accept the system. GPA isn’t the most accurate measure of intelligence the same way IQ tests are bogus too. https://t.co/L1RLg5Sv6I

She shared her own experience.
I had pretty much a decent CGPA but I still don’t understand where it helped me or how it makes me better than those who don’t have a better CGPA. I’ve seen people far more talented and dedicated with average or below average grades than those who have nothing except grades. https://t.co/I3DsCdZnMm

Meanwhile, she explained how someone with high CGPA can also fail.
Some with 4 CGPA got rejected in multinational company and someone with 3.7 CGPA got that job. *Mike drop* https://t.co/Opp5SYeoRC

According to this person, CGPA does not always help in the real world.

She makes a valid point.

If you wish to make your mark abroad, you need high CGPA.
ZAHRA IS RIGHT. Y' ALL DON'T GET THE STRUGGLE IN BIG COMPANIES AND IN CITIES LIKE LONDON OR NEW YORK. WHILE EXPERIENCE AND INTELLIGENCE IS IMPORTANT, TOP CHAMBERS (LAW SPECIFICALLY) WONT EVEN CONSIDER YOU WITHOUT A 1ST OR UPPER 2:1. https://t.co/tK6Nns2uo4

However, CGPA does not determine who you are as a person.
there’s loads of people who are SO fucking smart and like at the same time they’ve problems like financial, mental & family problems or the simply just CANNOT have a stable work ethic…it’s only neurotypical ppl who get to say that a GPA can say so much about you, probably can https://t.co/YEpwENRNev

While one girl summed up this whole discussion in a series of tweets.
Okay I’ve been seeing the GPA debate go on for too long. Can’t believe I have to spell it out for you guys but here it goes:
— ra. (@ra_sha93) June 26, 2018
She made a list of pros and cons.
Where GPA matters:
1) First job, esp at top companies like Mckinsey, Bain etc
2) Grad School – For Masters. For MBA, matters a little less
3) Scholarships (duh)Where GPA doesn’t matter:
2) Everywhere else. Some companies don’t ask for GPA for entry level jobs so lucky for you.— ra. (@ra_sha93) June 26, 2018
In the end, she gave an excellent conclusion.
In conclusion, if you have a good GPA – congratulations, you’re committed and have a lot more options at your disposal. If you don’t have a good gpa, it’s alright your life isn’t over. You can still grind it out and make something great out of your career.

Although GPA is important but it does not determine a person’s intellect and talent.
Some of the famous and successful people who are school/college dropouts.
Bill Gates
Mark Zuckerberg
Steve Jobs
Oprah Winfrey
All of these successful and famous people are examples enough that GPA is just a number. It does not make you the most talented, creative or intelligent person. Most of the times, it is the dropouts or people who do not attend college who are successful in life. While it helps to have a higher CGPA mentioned on your resume, you should not just rely on it. Your abilities, talent and creativity are what matters the most.
