There are not many restaurants in the city that have an overall great customer response than X2 Cafe Lahore. They have now opened up a new branch in DHA as well and are growing their business.
We decided to visit the old branch in Gulberg III and here is everything that happened:
We went there around 4 pm which is their Hi-tea time, but we decided to get an Ala Carte lunch anyway. The hi-tea did look like a wonderful spread and next time we might even try that.
We were in no mood for desi so we went to the cafe. The ambiance does not hit you well at first because the lighting is really dim. You do get used to the lights later on though. The seating is comfortable and the staff is nice.
We ordered two main course meals, a drink and a dessert. The main courses were Chicken Ala Kiev and Chicken Thai Basil served with rice. We ordered an X2 lemonade and a double chocolate skillet brownie for dessert.
The Ala Kiev was amazing. The portion size is enough and you get the full worth of what you are paying. The fried chicken breast was stuffed well and it was, for us, a great comfort food dish. The chef presented the whole ensemble really well. Smooth (but bland) mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables were served as sides. The fresh and crisp iceberg lettuce although made no sense with this dish.
I expected The Thai Basil Chicken to be a different dish but turned out to be very basic. The basil is the key ingredient but I could not really tell off. The spice level was perfect for thai and the chicken was well cooked. The portion again was a very good size. It was served with rice and the crispy lettuce made perfect sense with this dish.
The lemonade was a bit disappointing as it was really sour. It gave me a tingly feeling at the back of my jaw and I had to dilute it with more water.
The double chocolate skillet brownie was heaven on a plate. It is what a chocolate lover’s dream looks like. The perfect brownie over a perfect sizzling chocolate ganache and vanilla ice cream. It was truly the perfect dessert I was craving for. Wasn’t too sweet and wasn’t even too heavy. Just perfect!
X2 has a great variety of food and the portions are one of the largest in town. The pricing is a little heavy on the pocket though. Although I love the food but this cannot be my regukar go-to place because of the pricing.
